   Someone feels wronged by a law, a government action, or another person, and the legal issue involves federal or constitutional law.

   ⚖️Federal District Court (or State Trial Court)

   The very first court that hears your case. Evidence is shown, witnesses testify, and a decision is made.

   📋The Intermediate Appeals Court

   A higher court reviews your case to check if the law was applied correctly. No new evidence, just legal arguments.

   🏛️The Highest State Court (if applicable)

   For cases that started in state court, you must go all the way to the top of the state system first.

   📄Petition for Certiorari

   You formally ask the Supreme Court, in writing: "Please hear my case, and here's why it matters."

   Four of the nine justices must vote 'yes' to accept a case. No vote = lower court wins by default.

   📝Briefing, Both Sides Write Their Arguments

   Both sides submit written legal arguments. Outsiders who care about the outcome can also file "friend of the court" briefs.
